Christiansborg Palace
Christiansborg Palace on the Islet of Slotsholmen was once a Royal Palace for Kings and Queens. Now home to the Danish Parliament, Supreme Court and the Ministry of State. Take a tour of the palace and walk in the footsteps of Royalty. Be in awe of the Royal Reception Rooms and imagine the royalty that has walked through them. You can even see the beautiful throne room and private balcony where the Danish Monarchs are presented to the public and see the Twin Thrones that have been used by royalty for centuries. Admire the Great Hall that can accommodate 400 guests and is still used today for formal events and to welcome heads of states. A must to add to your Copenhagen things to do list.
Little Mermaid Statue
The most famous landmark in the city is the Copenhagen Little Mermaid Statue that sits on a rock next to the Langelinie promenade. Gifted in 1913 as a tribute to Author Hans Christian Anderson, the statue is inspired by the story, The Little Mermaid. A must to add to your Copenhagen things to do list but, don’t be shocked when you visit as the statue isnt as big as most people envision. Be sure to get a photo of the statue, said to be one of the most photographed things in Denmark.
National Museum
Wander exhibits from all eras of Denmark's history. The most famous piece from Norse Mythology is a bronze statue of a horse pulling a gold disc dating back to 1400BC called Trundholm Sun Chariot. For those of you interested in Vikings the museum is also home to some great collections of Viking artefacts and gives you a chance to delve into the country's Viking history.

Copenhagen Botanical Garden
Spanning 10 hectares in the centre of Copenhagen the Copenhagen Botanical Gardens is home to more than 13,000 plants, some have been in the gardens for more than 200 years. Beautiful glasshouses and a conservatory that dates back to the 1870s. The 27 glass houses are beautiful. The Palm House that was built in 1874 has a cast iron spiral narrow staircase inside that is 16m tall. A nice place to spend some time and enjoy the lush greenery and relaxed atmosphere and don’t forget to visit the butterfly house and be in awe of their amazing colour and elegant life.
Frederiksberg Gardens
Frederiksberg Gardens named after a beloved former king Frederik VI. The gardens have beautiful canals with lovely bridges and there's always boat tours throughout the summer months. The locals come to the park to relax, enjoy the water and take in its beauty as well as enjoying a picnic.
The Kings Gardens
The Kings Gardens is the oldest royal garden in the country. Next to Rosenborg Palace and also known as Rosenborg Garden it was laid in the 1600s during King Christian IV reign. When they were first laid only Royalty could use them; however, now the Gardens are for public use. In the summer months it's absolutely stunning to enjoy a picnic or a stroll when the beautiful flower beds are in bloom. There are activities throughout the summer for children and music festivals for adults. Spot the sculptures around the park including one of the author Hans Christian Anderson, beautiful fountains and a gorgeous rose garden.

For first time travellers to Copenhagen we recommend you stay in Indre, Indre is the city centre and is great for shopping, nightlife and centrally located to many of the tourist attractions. Vesterbro, an artistic area, is ideal for anyone wanting to enjoy the city's nightlife and close to Tivoli Gardens. Nyhavn is the most iconic place in the city and is one of the most talked about places with somewhere to stay on all budgets. On a honeymoon, a romantic getaway or simply just want to feel some romance then Christanshavn is a special place to stay and a unique part of the city, easy access to the city centre and a great vibe. If you're travelling on a budget then Nørrebro is the perfect location you can find anything from hostels to luxury. A stone's throw away from some of the main attractions Østerbro is great for families with children thanks to its laid back atmosphere and family friendly restaurants and cafes. Copenhagen hotels offer many different standards from low budget to luxury. We recommend that you pre book in advance to guarantee you secure the area and hotel most suited to your needs.
Airport and Transportation
Copenhagen Airport Kastrup (CPH) is one of the oldest in Europe and the largest airport in the Nordic countries. Just 8km from the city centre and also 24km west of Malmo in Sweden, making not only Denmark but also Sweden accessible. The airport has two terminals, Terminal 2 and 3. Both terminals serve both domestic and international passengers. The airport offers the normal facilities such as Duty Free, restaurants, cafes, bars, wifi and airline lounges.
There are five ways to travel to and from the airport and Copenhagen City Centre. There are public buses that run from the airport to the City Centre and are well known for their efficiency. The buses run outside of both terminals for drop off; however, for pick up going to the city centre buses only accept passengers from outside of Terminal 3. It's fairly inexpensive and you can find all routes and prices online. Tickets can be taken from the ticket machines at the stations. You can pay the driver on the bus however, you MUST have the correct change. Taxis are available outside of both terminals 24 hrs a day. It's approximately 20 minutes to the town centre. If you're travelling to Sweden you will need to take a specific taxi however, these are available next to the normal taxi rank. You can pay by card for taxi rides but, you must tell the driver before you set off that you need to pay by card.

Rent a bicycle for the day
One of the friendliest cities in the world for bicycles, Copenhagen locals regularly ride instead of using cars especially in the summer months. Generally flat with many cycle lanes for both ease and safety. You can rent bikes all over the city and it’s a unique way to see the famous architecture and get to the most popular tourist attractions easily.
Bakken Amusement Park
Bakken Amusement Park has been running in the city since 1583 and is the oldest operating amusement park in the world and one of the most popular attractions in Denmark for both local and international tourists. Guaranteed to be a fun filled day out for all the family young or old. A unique amusement park experience with both old and new style rides, nostalgia hits when you ride the old wooden roller coaster that’s 82 years old or as you're trying to win prizes at the shooting stalls. After all the excitement of the rides, music hall and different cabaret events it's time to enjoy some food or drinks in one of the many restaurants, cafes, pubs, bars or fast food outlets. Entrance to the park is free of charge and like the good old days you then pay for what you choose to ride on so you can spend as much or little as you like.
