The Old Town Hall, Altes Rathaus, located in Leipzig city centre is part of Renaissance architecture and was built in 1556. Home of the Museum of City History taking us on a journey from Medieval Times to the present day which exhibits a miniature replica of the city in the 19th century. During the year the old town hall with its impressive elegant ballroom is home to many events, exhibitions and concerts. The square where the Old Town Hall is located is also home to other old buildings that you can admire. The square is also home to great markets and festivals and if you're lucky enough to visit during Christmas you will find the famous German Christmas Market.

St. Thomas Church

St Thomas Church, Thomaskirche is home to the remains of Johann Sebastian Bach the composer. A beautiful Romanesque and neo-Gothic church that dates back to the 12th century. The church was destroyed in World War II and needed to be restored and was then reopened in 2000. The church features a marble baptismal font showing biblical scenes. If you visit over a Friday or Saturday why not visit during one of the choir performances of the St Thomas Boys which is sure to be a highlight of your holiday.

Leipzig Zoo founded in 1878 is home to wildlife from Africa, Asia and South America. There are over 5,000 different animals in the Zoo including a Siberian tiger. Enclosures are all as natural as possible with 6 themed exhibits including an aquarium and an ape enclosure. There are some live interactions during the day giving you a chance to feed the animals and learn more about them. To make the most of the Zoo at your own pace it's best to allow at least 3 hours. A great family fun day out.

Although the summers are pleasant, we recommend that you take a jumper and jacket for the cooler evenings. An umbrella is also recommended as rain is common even in the summer.
